Where have I been?

Camping and visiting with my Dad. I'll start posting again soon, and I'll have another free template next weekend.

Handprint canvases

It's been a while since I've made a home decor project- and even longer since I made one I LOVED. This is it! Becky Higgins put this on her blog- she does her kids' handprints each year, but I decided to do one for each of our family members. It's the first thing you see as you walk into my house!

What do you think?
Ali asked this on her blog- to post something about how we do journaling so that we don't have all these pages done without journaling on them. I'll admit, I have a few pages like that. I just need to pull out an album at a time and a pen and start writing, huh? Anyway, this is what I said:

"Most of the time I journal long before I make my layout. My kids will say something funny, or I'll start thinking and type out a paragraph or list (or whatever) right then. I save it and later- sometimes a year later or more- I go back in and read it... then I find photos and use the journaling.

I'm purely digital now (with a half a room of paper supplies getting dusty), but when I did paper scrapping I would do the same thing- except I'd format the journaling and print it out on white cardstock. Then when I'm inspired to scrapbook, I'd pull out my sheets of ready made journaling and cut them apart and use them. Those are some of my best pages!"

PS Why is it almost impossible for me to spell journaling correctly the first time? I always have 2 "l"s and have to go back and delete one. Ugh!

#94

Wow, I feel awful. Fever, chills, diarrhea, no energy, father coming in 4 days, can't take the day off tomorrow.... Ugh!

So here's the template for this past weekend. It's a 2 pager. I have some great ideas because there are a LOT of photos and a LOT of journaling space.

1. Make a page about "things that remind me about you" for a loved one who is no longer with us. I think a block with things like a flower, a song, or whatever, and a block or more for memories of that person.

2. Make a page about "cool things I've done in my lifetime." I have always wanted to do a page, or a minibook, about this. I think it will be cool to know that my youngest ds was on 19 flights before he turned one. And that I've driven a limo and a hearse. Not many people can say either of those things- and it makes me feel special that I have.

So without further ado...

The downloadable template probably won't be available for a few weeks, because my friend who posts them for me has a daughter having surgery soon. I'll let you know when they are available. And I'm praying for her, Anne. {hugs}

ASB FREE Template #93

Here's this weekend's template:

And here's my sample for the template.

Supplies: Lakeside Kit by Anne Schlegel (AKA Creative Dreams)
I know I really should be showing off her elements more, but with papers this gorgeous and textured, who needs embellishments??!
HERE is where you can get the template for FREE. Go ahead! Download it! It's FREE after all!!
Techniques: Really the only technique I used is that for the two smaller photos, I used the rectangle marquee tool with the "Feather" at about 15 (I change it depending on the look I'm going for), clicked Select> Inverse, and then hit my delete button- to get the blended outer edges, then I changed both of their layer styles to Overlay (in the layer palette) so that they blend into the background more.

I was sitting on my swing enjoying the day, and my 4yo asked if he could take a picture. I handed him my digital P&S and he took these awesome pictures! Granted they are my "Oh my GOD, am I REALLY THAT fat" pictures, but other than that, they are great for a 4 year old photographer! (And it's a great camera for a P&S- a Kodak Easyshare!)
Notice the pile of dandelions next to me- gifts from my 4yo.
