My friend Jeff wrote a fabulous app for the iPhone called Family Flashcards. It is geared toward young kids - I would guess age one to 6 or 7 (although my 8 and 12 year old sons were fighting over it, so maybe even older!)
The object is to help young children learn the faces and names of their family members.
CAN YOU SAY EXCELLENT APP FOR MILITARY CHILDREN??!!
It only came out in the app store today, and I immediately bought it. It costs 99 cents.
You add the photos of the family members, type in their name, and record YOUR voice saying the person's name.. Wouldn't it be awesome for your child to hear the name "Grammy" or "Aunt Hilda" and learn their face before you go visit for Christmas?
Or what if Daddy deploys when the baby is 3 months old?! Yep, they can know Daddy! It has room for 3 photos of each person!
So let me show you the game....
This is the main screen. These are the four games for the child to choose from. Press the i on the top left and add photos and names for your family. You can take new pictures or add pics from the camera roll.
This is the page after I added three people and two animals. :) The drawings are standard in the new game so you can play around until you get your own family in there. Then you can easily delete the drawings.
This is the balloon game. The young child just touches the balloons. Once they pop one, the family member's face comes out of the balloon and it says "This is Brett" in YOUR voice! (Well, in MY voice, in this case.)
This is the flashcards game. It pops up with a photo and says "who's this?" The child can say the name, and when they touch the photo it says "It's Nicky!" (You record that when you add the faces.)
This is the Memory game. It's self explanatory.
Basically I think this game is excellent and totally worth the 99 cents (even more!) to purchase! (And I'm not just saying that because my friend made it!) It's easy to use. It's easy for very young kids to play. It's fun.
(And I had the idea that you can put your foreign language class words on there.... blau - blue- and a picture of something blue, etc.) I did ask and found out that there is no limit to the amount of pictures you add to the app- it's only limited to the size of your phone memory. So I really think this would be a good app for learning!
